Sentinel Statement on 'Green Homes Grant Scheme'

As a company who have always promoted energy efficiency, Sentinel welcome the recent news of the Green Homes Grant initiative, which aims to ensure homes are made energy efficient, minimising the nation’s carbon footprint and reducing fuel poverty., by offering grants to cover two-thirds of the costs of modifications to properties.

Sentinel are your one-stop shop company for heating efficiency products, and studies have shown that correct use of our products typically reduces heating bills by an average of 15%*, which goes hand in hand with the aim of the scheme and will ultimately allow homeowners and bill payers to benefit, by having smaller energy bills and ultimately more money in their pocket.

Homeowners and private landlords will be able to take advantage of the scheme, meaning those in rented properties will also be able to benefit from the measures which are put in place. The likelihood is that the scheme will be made up from vouchers which can be used towards making energy-efficient improvements to homes, after homeowners sign up to have their homes assessed.
As it stands, the information which is available suggests that around £2bn will be made available for refurbishment and renovation of properties for energy efficiency projects, which is part of a wider £3bn plan to cut carbon emissions nationally. As we wait for government confirmation on the specifics of the scheme, there remains some detail to be clarified, notably around the inclusion of boilers on the scheme.

Early indications point towards inclusion of air and ground source heat pumps in the scheme, which is already a core business area for Sentinel, in regions such as Northern Europe and Scandinavia. Our traditional product mix has focused on central heating systems, but we also have a long established and trusted renewable business, which offers equivalent protection and reduction of heating bills for other source heating systems too.

Commercial Sales Director at Sentinel, Dan Wilson, comments “This initiative comes at a time where the plumbing and heating sector has taken a massive hit as result of the Covid-19 pandemic. The scheme will provide stimulus to the UK economy and especially our industry; reducing wasted energy and most importantly lessening fuel poverty inequality. Hopefully the scheme will benefit homeowners in a similar way the Boiler Scrappage and Warm Front scheme of the last decade, whilst simultaneously providing economic opportunity for our customers, who have been hit hardest by the recent circumstances.”

As we find out more regarding the Green Homes Grant Scheme, we will of course update our position and offer our assistance and energy efficiency expertise to as many people as possible.
